Start with an A-Z or 0-9 preset, customize the loom patterns, then copy the ready-to-paste /give command.
Pick a character, then use Base color and Paint color to recolor it. Every preset is survival-friendly and uses six or fewer loom steps. Q reads best cut out of a paint-colored banner, so its loom guide starts there.
